Today’s post is a little different.

Justin recently saw one of our past clients to drop off a dog portrait, and she told him that her husband’s grandfather - who was at their wedding - had passed.

And it got me thinking just about the wedding industry, photography specifically, and the approach we are taking when it comes to marketing and attracting new couples.

Obviously if you come to our Instagram or website, you see the beautiful florals, stunning landscapes and venues, and of course, the amazing (if I can toot our own horn here) portraits of our couples.

Hidden in the private galleries are the family photos and the more documentary, imperfect images of the day. And I felt really crappy about that. Because it’s honestly not who we are, and I feel a little bit like we have gotten caught up in this industry and what goes unsaid about what you have to do to be “successful.”

Now are these photos above stunners? Some would say no. Some aren’t even compositionally great. But so what?

What’s more important, is to see a moment and act, rather than pause and try to fix your composition and then the moment has passed.

What’s more important is the sentimental value and the new life and meaning these photos have to the wedding couple and their family. It’s beyond words to have something , like a photo, and be able connect with someone visually who you can no longer connect with in life.

This post is not only to celebrate the life of someone who was important to our couple, and therefore important to us, but also to serve as a reminder as to why we started doing this job in the first place. We’ll be sharing more photos like these from our galleries in the future.
